the shaft

The shaft is four chambers under one lid. This page shows what each holds, how it fills, and the exact bytes the site reads to know.

cross section

The bars are relative to the fullest chamber, so the picture shows the shape of what is behind the lid rather than its absolute size. Absolute figures are in the table below.

Everything that reaches the slot is split before it is stored, so the slot account itself holds only what is in flight inside a transaction. If the slot account shows a balance between transactions, something is wrong, and that is why the figure is on this page.

byte map

The door account is decoded from these offsets. Anyone can fetch the account and check the site's numbers against the raw bytes.

The high is stored as a u64 scaled by one trillion, so a price of one cent is stored as ten billion. The basis point fields are fixed at deploy and cannot be changed by any instruction. The window is thirty two trades.

what the fourth chamber is for

Ten percent of everything that enters the slot goes into a chamber that no instruction can read. It is not a treasury, because a treasury can be spent. It is weight. Every trade on the coin adds to it and nothing subtracts from it, so over the life of the coin an increasing amount of SOL sits behind a door that has no handle on either side.

The reason is simple. A coin whose entire reserve can be poured is a coin whose entire reserve can be drained by a long enough run of sells. Keeping a tenth out of reach means the floor under the coin is not the pool alone, and the part that is out of reach grows fastest exactly when the coin is being traded hardest.

You can verify that the fourth chamber cannot pour by reading the program. There is no instruction that takes chamber four as a writable account. The address of the chamber is on the home page and its balance is on this one.
